Chocolate Fudge Cake

A decadently rich and irresistibly moist Chocolate Fudge Cake bursting with deep cocoa intensity and melt-in-your-mouth fudge texture. Perfect for celebrations or anytime you crave a luscious chocolate dessert, this classic recipe balances indulgence with ease and versatility.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour – 1 and 3/4 cups (220g)
  • Cocoa powder – 3/4 cup (65g), quality Dutch-processed recommended
  • Baking powder – 1 and 1/2 teaspoons
  • Baking soda – 1 and 1/2 teaspoons
  • Granulated sugar – 2 cups (400g)

Wet Ingredients

  • Butter – 3/4 cup (170g), softened
  • Eggs – 2 large, room temperature
  • Milk or buttermilk – 1 cup (240ml), room temperature
  • Vanilla extract – 2 teaspoons

Chocolate

  • Melting chocolate or chocolate chips – 1 cup (175g), melted

Instructions

  1. Preparing Your Pan and Ingredients: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans or line them with parchment paper to ensure easy release after baking.
  2. Mixing Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda to prevent lumps and incorporate air for a tender crumb.
  3. Creaming Butter and Sugar: Using a hand or stand mixer, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, creating air pockets for a lighter cake texture.
  4. Adding Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in eggs one at a time, fully incorporating each before adding the next. Stir in vanilla extract for added depth of flavor.
  5. Combining Wet and Dry Ingredients: Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk or buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry. Mix gently after each addition to avoid overworking the batter.
  6. Incorporating Melted Chocolate: Fold in the melted chocolate or chocolate chips evenly to enhance the fudgy texture and deepen the chocolate flavor.
  7. Baking the Cake: Pour the batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs for perfect fudginess.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter, eggs, and milk for a smooth, consistent batter.
  • Do not overmix the batter to prevent a dense cake.
  • High-quality cocoa powder and chocolate improve flavor and fudginess.
  • Check oven temperature with a thermometer to ensure even baking.
  • Allow cake to cool fully before frosting to prevent melting.
