Ingredients

Scale

Cheese and Coating

  • 8 oz fresh goat cheese
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour alternative)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (or gluten-free breadcrumbs)
  • Salt, a pinch
  • Black pepper, a pinch

Flavor and Frying

  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 1/4 cup honey (preferably raw or wildflower)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying (about 2 cups)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Goat Cheese: Shape the fresh goat cheese into small bite-sized balls, approximately one inch in diameter. Lightly press fresh thyme leaves onto each ball to infuse extra herbal flavor.
  2. Set Up the Dredging Stations: Arrange the coating stations by placing all-purpose flour on one plate, the beaten eggs in a shallow bowl, and the breadcrumbs mixed with a pinch of salt and black pepper on another plate.
  3. Coat the Cheese Bites: Dredge each goat cheese ball in flour first, then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally roll it thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture to cover evenly. For an extra crispy crust, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps once more.
  4. Fry Until Golden: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry the coated cheese bites in small batches for 2 to 3 minutes, or until they become golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  5. Drizzle with Honey and Garnish: Arrange the fried bites on a serving platter, generously drizzle with fresh honey, and sprinkle additional fresh thyme leaves for aroma and presentation.

Notes

  • Chill the shaped goat cheese balls for at least 30 minutes before frying to help maintain shape and prevent melting.
  • Use fresh thyme for a more vibrant flavor compared to dried herbs.
  • Fry in small batches to avoid overcrowding and to maintain proper oil temperature.
  • Drain fried bites well on paper towels for a lighter, less greasy finish.
  • Serve the bites immediately while warm to enjoy gooey cheese and crispy crust.
