Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Top Sirloin Steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 large Onion, diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 large Bell Pepper, diced
  • 1 cup Tomato Sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) Diced Tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) Kidney Beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 cups Beef Broth
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil

Spices

  • 2 tbsp Chili Powder
  • 1 tsp Ground Cumin
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Ingredients: Chop the sirloin steak into bite-sized pieces. Dice the onion, garlic, and bell peppers finely to ensure even cooking and flavor distribution.
  2. Sear the Steak: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the steak cubes and sear them until browned on all sides. This caramelization locks in juices and builds a flavorful base for the chili.
  3. Sauté Aromatics: Remove the steak and set aside. In the same pot, add the diced onions, minced garlic, and chopped bell peppers. Cook them until softened and fragrant, which will add depth to the chili’s aroma and taste.
  4. Combine and Simmer: Return the seared steak to the pot. Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, kidney beans, beef broth, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer gently for about 1 hour to meld all flavors perfectly.
  5. Final Taste and Adjust: Taste the chili and adjust seasoning by adding more salt, pepper, or spices if desired. If the chili is too thick, add a splash of broth or water to reach your preferred consistency. Let it simmer a few more minutes if needed.

Notes

  • Choose a tender but firm steak like sirloin for the best texture.
  • Don’t skip searing the steak to add layers of flavor that simmering alone cannot achieve.
  • Simmer the chili low and slow to tenderize the meat and develop deep flavor.
  • Use fresh spices for maximum flavor impact.
  • Let the chili rest for 10-15 minutes before serving to allow flavors to settle and intensify.
