Ingredients

Scale

Filling Ingredients

  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract

Coating Ingredients

  • 8 ounces white, dark, or milk chocolate (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mint Filling: In a bowl, combine softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract. Mix thoroughly until the mixture becomes smooth and firm enough to hold its shape when formed, ensuring no lumps remain for a creamy texture.
  2. Shape the Patties: Using your hands or a spoon, shape the filling into small, round discs about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place each patty on parchment paper and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up before coating.
  3. Melt the Chocolate: Melt your choice of chocolate using a double boiler or microwave, stirring frequently to avoid burning. The melted chocolate should be smooth and slightly cooled but still pourable.
  4. Coat the Patties: Dip each chilled peppermint patty into the melted chocolate, ensuring it’s fully covered. Use a fork or dipping tool to lift and let excess chocolate drip back into the bowl. Place the coated patties back onto parchment paper.
  5. Let Them Set: Allow the chocolate coating to harden by placing the patties in the fridge for about 10–15 minutes. Once set, your homemade Peppermint Patties are ready to enjoy!

Notes

  • Chill the filling before shaping to make handling easier and prevent melting during dipping.
  • Use high-quality peppermint and vanilla extracts for better flavor depth.
  • Be patient melting the chocolate to keep it smooth and glossy; avoid overheating.
  • If chocolate thickens or seizes, add a teaspoon of vegetable oil to loosen it for dipping.
  • Store patties in a cool, dry place or refrigerator to maintain freshness and texture.
