Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour (can substitute gluten-free baking blend for gluten-free version)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup milk (or almond/oat milk for dairy-free)
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Vanilla Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons milk (adjust for desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter: Combine the dry ingredients — flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt — in a mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry, mixing gently until just combined to keep the batter light and airy.
  2. Fill the Donut Pan: Spray a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray. Spoon or pipe the batter evenly into each cavity, filling about three-quarters full to allow room for rising. Avoid overfilling to prevent donuts from overflowing.
  3. Bake Until Golden: Place the donut pan in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. The donuts should spring back when lightly pressed, and a toothpick inserted should come out clean.
  4. Make the Vanilla Glaze: While the donuts cool, whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a splash of milk until smooth and glossy. Adjust the consistency to be thick but pourable.
  5. Glaze and Set: Dip the top of each cooled donut into the vanilla glaze, letting excess drip off. Place on a wire rack to allow the glaze to set and form a perfect shiny coating.

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs and milk for a smoother, even batter texture.
  • Mix batter just until combined to keep donuts tender and avoid toughness.
  • Use a donut pan for even baking and classic donut shape.
  • Ensure donuts are completely cooled before glazing to prevent glaze from sliding off.
  • Allow glaze to set fully for the best texture and appearance.
