Base
- 1 package store-bought or homemade pizza dough (enough to roll out ¼ inch thick rectangle)
Filling
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- ½ cup diced bell peppers
- ½ cup chopped fresh spinach
- ½ cup marinara sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
For Baking
- Prepare the Filling: In a small pan, sauté the minced garlic until fragrant. Add diced bell peppers and chopped spinach, cooking until softened and tender. Remove from heat and stir in marinara sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper until well combined to create a flavorful filling.
- Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll the pizza dough into a large rectangle about ¼ inch thick. Ensure the thickness is even to help spread the filling consistently and roll tightly.
- Assemble the Rolls: Spread the prepared vegetable and sauce mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border along the edges. Generously sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Carefully roll the dough from one end to the other to form a tight log.
- Slice and Bake: Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 1 to 1.5-inch thick rounds. Place the rounds on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush or spray the tops with olive oil to ensure a golden, crispy crust. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, until the rolls are crisp and browned.
Notes
- Use cold dough before rolling to maintain structure and achieve flakier crust.
- Don’t overfill the rolls to prevent bursting during baking.
- Brush olive oil on the outside for a nicely browned and crispy texture.
- Use a sharp knife to slice to maintain round, clean edges.
- Let the sliced rolls rest a few minutes before baking for even cooking.
